We will discuss the issue as relevant to a Child Development centre in Kolkata, India.

IQ Tests or similar tests may be called Developmental Quotient, Psychometric Test,
which are usually needed by your child’s doctor/ healthcare professional for

1) Baseline (idea of your child’s mental function at the start of intervention) and
2) Monitoring (idea of whether your child is responding adequately to intervention)

You may specifically request for such tests under special circumstances e.g.!
1) Travel/Visa purposes
2) Legal purposes
3) Educational dispute purposes etc.

It is not a good idea “just to test” your child’s IQ for your own curiosity as it is a clinical/technical tool designed for specific usage and not just for the sake of it.

In fact, if you are dying to know about your child’s IQ, there would be deeper issues at play and therefore, you should consult a Development Paediatrician who can address this appropriately with full professional competence to avoid any unintended harm coming your child’s way in the process!
